Olympic “breakdancer” Rachael Gunn, who goes by Raygun, apologized Wednesday for embarrassing her entire country at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 37-year-old didn’t score a single point across the match, losing a miserable 18-0 for her tragic interpretation of “break dancing.” Gunn was mocked endlessly for her performance in mid-August and finally apologized via Australian television on Wednesday. Kind of.
Gunn claims her breaking style is “just a different approach” to the so-called sport, she told “The Project.” And to be honest, the rest of the interview follows a fairly similar totally-out-of-touch approach. “I knew that I was going to get beaten, and I knew that people were not going to understand my style and what I was going to do,” Gunn said. “The odds were against me, that’s for sure.”
As for the backlash? Gunn would rather focus on the positives. “It’s going out there and just having fun and going as hard as you can in the face of, you know, losing,” Gunn added, clearly not understanding how much she disrespected herself, her country and people who actually work within her sport.
“It made a mockery of the Australian scene and I think that’s why a lot of us are hurting,” Aussie hip hop legend Spice told the BBC. (RELATED: Boyfriend Sets Olympic Runner Rebecca Cheptegei On Fire, Police Say)
“It is really sad to hear those criticisms and I am very sorry for the backlash that the community has experienced, but I can’t control how people react,” Gunn said of the situation. This is just my personal opinion … but saying “I’m sorry, but” isn’t a real apology.
