Daniel Pipes, President of the Middle East Forum: A former official in the U.S. departments of State and Defense, he has taught at the University of Chicago, Harvard University, the U.S. Naval War College, and Pepperdine University. He is the author of sixteen books on the Middle East, Islam, and other topics. Mr. Pipes writes a column for the Washington Times and his writings have been translated into 37 languages. He frequently discusses current issues on television and radio. He has received two Presidential appointments has served on five presidential campaigns, and testified before many congressional committees. Al-Qaeda invited Mr. Pipes to convert, Edward Said called him an "orientalist," and Edward Kennedy borked him.
