Rep. Parker Griffith is a retired physician and small business owner. He developed several local businesses and has been active in charitable and community activities for more than thirty years. He was elected to the Alabama State Senate in 2006 and has worked to improve our healthcare system, lower taxes and expand early childhood education programs. As a physician, Griffith was the first radiation oncologist in North Alabama and a pioneer in the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. He established the first Comprehensive Cancer Center in North Alabama to treat all types of cancer. As a doctor, he provided free and discounted care to patients without insurance.<br /> <br /> Dr. Griffith has also been involved in our schools through the Griffith Family Foundation, which awards cash grants to elementary school libraries across North Alabama. He is no stranger to the classroom, having taught seventh grade math before attending medical school and having lectured in local schools on biology and health issues. Parker and his wife, Virginia, have five children and eleven grandchildren. They are Episcopalians, are members of the Church of the Nativity and have long been active members of the Huntsville community.
