A detransitioner told Sirius XM’s Megyn Kelly Wednesday how sex change hormones and surgery “wreaked havoc” on her body.

Luka Hein, a woman who previously received a double mastectomy and took testosterone to present herself as a man, explained how her transition began when she was a teenager. The detransitioner told Kelly and “Detrans” author Mary Margaret Olohan, a former reporter for the Daily Caller News Foundation, that she started injecting herself with testosterone four months after her breasts were removed from age 16 to 20.

“It made my voice deeper, it changed my skin and hair texture, it gave me really bad, like, acne, um… it made, like, body hair texture change,” Hein said of the male hormone injections. “It also just launched my teenage body into a chemically induced menopause.”

“Just chaos,” Kelly said. “It just seems like you’re taking a God-given, natural-born system and creating utter chaos in it.”

Hein said there was “a level of placebo” to the four years she spent identifying as a transgender man, noting that “everyone” around her “was affirming” her transition. She also attributed feeling “good” to testosterone, which she said gave her “energy” when “mixed with all the other mental health medicines” she was taking at the time.

“I didn’t realize just how disconnected I felt from everything in my life until I detransitioned. Disconnected from my physical self, from just everything, everyone around me,” Hein said. “To the point where I was so disassociated from myself throughout those years, that when it all came crashing back down, it felt like the emotional equivalent of being hit by a bus, essentially.”

Hein said she detransitioned because she “grew up,” emphasizing that she didn’t want to be “chained to a medical industry.” She told Kelly and Olohan how her sexual maturity was skewed while she was identifying as transgender, adding that it was difficult to even think about having a serious relationship at the time. “It was confusing — and like, there’s two separate aspects I suppose I could divide this into,” Hein said. “You have the aspect of, okay, my body is being pumped with high amounts of testosterone, and that’s just wreaking havoc on everything, making everything very confusing, and kind of warping, um, any attraction I had. And then you had, you had the aspect of just navigating the world like that and also not knowing what to do because of the fact that the, you know, the sexual trauma I had was never addressed in favor of the gender thing.”

“So then you have, essentially, a 16 to 19-year-old who doesn’t really have a picture of what healthy relationships looks like, has these raging, wrong hormones in her body that are throwing everything out of whack, um, who is on mental health medication that is also throwing everything there out of balance,” she continued. “And just a very confusing time where there never was a serious relationship in any of that because I don’t think at the time that would have been possible given what was happening.”

“This is so cruel,” Kelly said.
