Europe has endured weekend weather misery, with scores of flights cancelled and key roads cut off as snow blanketed much of the continent, and officials urged people to stock up on supplies.
Germans were warned to buy enough food and medicines to last for up to four days, then hunker down at home, avoiding all non-essential travel.
As much as 25 centimetres of snow has fallen in northern and central Germany, with more snow forecast for yesterday throughout the country.
