Postmodernist Senate candidate giving Barbara Boxer a run for her whatever

Republican Carly Fiorina’s “Demon Sheep” ad is probably not what philosopher Rudolf Pannwitz had in mind when he complained of the nihilistic influences creeping into Western political thought in the early 20th century, but it seems to have worked.

The apocalyptic attack on GOP rival Tom Campbell, along with a successive ad featuring Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer’s head floating over California like a rejected Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon, have the former HP CEO in a dead heat with both Boxer and Campbell. From the San Francisco Chronicle:

Boxer v. Fiorina

Boxer: 44 percent/35 percent independents

Fiorina: 43 percent/41 percent independents

Undecided: 13 percent/24 percent independents

PPIC: Women favor Boxer by 14 points (51 percent Boxer, 37 percent Fiorina) and men favor Fiorina by 13 points (49 percent Fiorina, 36 percent Boxer).

While Fiorina’s standing in the polls likely has just as much to do with Boxer’s inability to do anything right and Campbell’s defense of a terrorist, there’s no reason she shouldn’t keep releasing those weird ads. In times like these, America needs to laugh.
