I just ran into former Sen. Mel Martinez, Florida Republican, at the Capitol. He said he was there to have lunch with Sen. George Voinovich, Ohio Republican.
When I asked, Martinez said he thinks Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is going to leave the Republican party to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent, now that he is getting shellacked in the primary by Marco Rubio.
“Does he have a chance?” I asked.
“He’s got a better chance that way than in the primary,” Martinez said.
