A Milwaukee program admits it is one of two Head Start programs in the state caught in a federal fraud investigation.
Federal investigators from the Government Accountability Office went to a few months ago posing as parents. According to its report, a worker helped them lie about their income, making their child eligible for the federally funded Head Start program.
The fallout has been swift. The worker was fired, and now the entire system is under review.
The Social Development Commission, or SDC, held a news conference on Tuesday to announce the fraud and the firing. It said the worker admitted violating policy.
