Sexual promiscuity and the non-medical use of drugs are two habits that might seem like birds of a feather which naturally flock together, but the basis for the connection is not so obvious.

A study published today in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B (the B is for “biological sciences”), titled Sex, Drugs and Moral Goals, makes an arresting case that attitudes toward both such behaviours have more to do with reproductive strategies for perpetuating one’s genes than with moral principles, let alone one’s place on the political spectrum.
