The Rhinelander Mansion—for over twenty years the home of Ralph Lauren’s flagship store, and a permanent destination on the world’s fashion map—is about to become men's-only. The brand is devoting every inch of the four-floor, 27,000-square-foot space on New York’s Upper East Side to its Polo, RRL, Black Label, Purple Label, and RLX collections for men. Each line has its own supremely decked-out, smartly-edited boutique, stocked with all the signposts of its particular identity (think weathered display cases full of vintage fabrics and accessories in the RRL section; massive leather club chairs and an interactive “Create Your Own” plasma touch screen at Polo; a velvety, plum-colored pool table at Purple Label).

Polo, Black Label, and Purple Label offer full-on, made-to-measure suit programs, while RRL debuts a suiting line of its own; and, of course, there are plenty of limited-run goods you can only get at this store. True to Ralph Lauren form, it all somehow feels less like a retail environment than a regal, tobacco-stained English gentlemen's club. Here, a first look at all the details.
