Delaware’s #1 export: sour grapes

Or: “How can we win any elections if the voters don’t do what we want?”

The Hill:

A Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) campaign source confirmed to The Hill late Tuesday that the longtime congressman will not be endorsing Christine O’Donnell.

The Tea Party-backed O’Donnell defeated Castle for Delaware’s Republican Senate nomination.

Yeah, she did. And I thought the protocol was when you got beat, you endorsed the person who beat you. But apparently Castle thinks he was entitled to that nomination. Well, at least he’s ruled out running a write-in campaign, like that other one up in Alaska is threatening to do.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which reportedly had refused to support O’Donnell at first, is now backing down from backing down:

The Senate Republican campaign arm on Wednesday pledged to support Christine O’Donnell, the Tea Party favorite who shocked the political establishment Tuesday by winning Delaware’s GOP primary.

Sen. John Cornyn, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, spoke to O’Donnell Wednesday and told her she would have the NRSC’s backing like any other Republican Senate candidate.

“Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee — and I personally as the committee’s chairman — strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O’Donnell in Delaware,” Cornyn said in a statement.

There you go. Even if you don’t like her and you think she’s awful and the whole thing is a disaster and it’s the end of everything, there’s a right way and a wrong way to deal with it. Just because Castle picked the wrong way doesn’t mean everybody else needs to.

In other Delaware news: The White House finally fixed its “Recovery Summer” map, which originally spelled the state “Deleware.” They still don’t know what a recovery is, but one step at a time.

P.S.

What a monster.

P.P.S. I spoke too soon. The Democrats have won, once and for all. Might as well disband the Republican Party right now.

P.P.P.S. O’Donnell has raised $750,000 in the last 24 hours. It can only help that Harry Reid is saying things like this about her opponent: “Chris Coons, everybody knows him in the Democratic caucus. He’s my pet. He’s my favorite candidate… I’m glad he’s running. I just think the world of him. He’s my pet.
