AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka is inserting himself into America’s highest-profile labor conflict with an offer to serve as a mediator in the dispute between the National Football League and the NFL Players Association.

He called his plan “an immediate and important step toward saving football for the 2011 season and avoiding the significant job losses that will occur if owners lock out the players and cancel games.”
