ISLAMABAD – An investigation into a NATO airstrike that killed two Pakistani soldiers last week, triggering retaliatory torchings of coalition supply trucks and the closure of a key border crossing, has concluded that the incident was the result of poor cross-border coordination.
The investigation found that two helicopters entered Pakistani airspace “several times” and discharged missiles after the Pakistani soldiers fired warning shots, a coalition statement said Wednesday. NATO officials had said the airstrike was conducted in self-defense.
