Mississippi governor Haley Barbour said that, if Republicans make big gains after today’s election, it will be a repudiation of Obama’s policies but not necessarily an enthusiastic approval of the GOP.

The chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association said a victory for his party would not mean that Americans are saying “we love you Republicans.”

“It’s the American people saying, ‘now Republicans, we’re giving you another chance, you better do better this time’,” said Barbour on MSNBC. “’We’re watching. You can earn our trust but don’t confuse this with you already got our trust.’”

Barbour argued that Republicans were voted out because of their massive spending under President George W. Bush and that they must do better this time around.

“[Americans are] going to see this Republican Congress cut spending and if they don’t, the American people are going to say, ‘Hey guys, you failed us again.’”
