She made her name as a straight talking politician and down to earth ‘hockey mom.’

And tonight, Sarah Palin can add reality show star to her list of accomplishments.

In her new TV show, Sarah Palin on Alaska, which premiered on U.S. TV tonight, the 46-year-old gets stuck into a variety of outdoor activities including shooting, fishing and glacier hiking.

In the first of eight episodes, entitled ‘Mama Grizzly’, Palin is portrayed as a family-loving woman with a gung-ho attitude to life and the outdoors.

‘I love this state like I love my family,’ she tells viewers, before taking her brood for a spot of salmon fishing in bear country, where they see a grizzly bear and her two cubs.

‘I love watching these mama bears,’ she tells the cameras.  ‘They’ve got a nature that humankind could learn from.

‘She’s trying to show her cubs that;  “Nobody’s gonna do it for you. You get out there and do it yourself, guys,”‘ she adds.
