The Democratic Party is in the midst of a mental breakdown, California GOP chairman Ron Nehring told The Daily Caller.

Nehring was responding to comments made by California Democratic Party chairman John Burton, who TheDC reported likened Obama’s tax cut compromise with the GOP to negotiating with “terrorists.”

“Just as we do not negotiate with international terrorists,” Burton wrote in an e-mail to the California Democratic Party on Tuesday, “we must stand up to the political terrorism of the Republicans in the United States Senate.”

Nehring told TheDC that this statement shows a Democratic Party that is rotting from within.

“You have a party which had quickly grown very cocky and arrogant,” Nehring said. “As a direct result of that arrogance and the overreaching that it produces, they lost control of the house and lost seats in the Senate … and you have complete turmoil among the Democrats as a result. There is no consensus on what led to their losses, no consensus on a way forward, tempers are flaring, and they are pointing their guns inside the tent on the one hand, and lashing out with the other.”

Nehring added that the use of such inflammatory language was “an indication of a party that has lost total control and lacks the discipline necessary for success in the next election.”
