Prosecutors are investigating whether an inmate ran a “$10,000-a-month” contraband business inside Northampton County Prison that sold narcotics and tobacco to fellow prisoners.

In December, the inmate’s cell was searched by corrections officers who uncovered a cellular phone, which is illegal in the prison, according to a search warrant for phone records filed Jan. 10 by a detective with the district attorney’s office.

The inmate, a member of the Latin Kings gang, is alleged to be “running the contraband trade inside the prison (narcotics and tobacco),” wrote Detective Barry Golazeski. “The contraband sales inside the prison are alleged to be a $10,000-a-month business.”
