Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is announcing his candidacy for president via Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday, his spokesman, Rick Tyler, confirmed to The Daily Caller.
Sean Hannity will interview the GOP “ideas machine” Wednesday night, his first interview after announcing, and Gingrich is slated to speak about running at the Georgia GOP convention later in the week, Tyler said.
Gingrich led Republicans to control of the House for the first time in decades in 1994. Since resigning from Congress, he has assembled an empire of non-profit and for-profit groups that help promote his ideas. The infrastructure could aid Gingrich in running for the presidency.
At the same time, Gingrich has stumbled in the early exploratory phase of his candidacy, angering the conservative intelligentsia with an ostentatious defense of ethanol subsidies and bombing on explanations for his repeated adultery and three marriages.
