On Thursday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich went on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show to discuss the recent controversy over his remarks on “Meet the Press.”  Gingrich explained to Limbaugh that, “David Gregory brought up an 18-year-old interview, in 1993, on Hillarycare, which we were in the process of defeating. And in 1993, the conservative alternative to government-run healthcare was you buying your own insurance.” (Presumably, this means you would be mandated to do so).

But former Majority Leader Dick Armey told me today he didn’t remember it quite that way: “I don’t recall that — and I can’t for the life of me believe that such a thing could have been happening and I wouldn’t have had a very, very clear reaction against that,” he said. “So I don’t know what Newt’s remembering, but I certainly don’t remember anything like that.”

My full podcast with Majority Leader Armey will be up next week. But you can listen to the audio of our discussion about 1993 here:
