Hugh Hefner may be the latest victim of a fiancee with cold feet, but he’s certainly not the first.

The infamous playboy had his heart broken by playmate Crystal Harris just five days before the pair was slated to say “I do.” Hef’s heartbreak quickly turned into a sigh of relief, and the 85-year-old mogul recently told reporters he “missed a bullet” by not marrying the 25-year-old Harris.

One of the most memorable broken engagements was between two A-list stars, long before they made it big. Before he was swept away by Ms. Jolie, Brad Pitt popped the question to a 21-year-old Gwyneth Paltrow.

The buzzed-about couple shocked fans when they mysteriously called off their engagement just a month before the wedding in 1997. Paltrow spoke to “60 Minutes” about the split and said, “My internal stuff really tripped up and I felt really responsible and also like I was the architect of my own misery and I just made a big mess of it and … I was very upset for a long, long time about it.”

From Jennifer Lopez and Paris Hilton to Demi Moore and Katie Holmes, take a look at the other runaway brides who famously called off their weddings.
