Child star Dakota Fanning might be joining a string of celebrities who attend prestigious institutions of higher learning after becoming famous.

According to NYU Local, the 17-year-old Georgia native has enrolled — under her legal name, Hannah Dakota Fanning — as a first-year student at New York University.

“We were messing around in the new NYU Gmail system (because why not) and saw that her name and Net ID are in the autocomplete directory,” reports Zoë Schlanger, who added that the “I Am Sam” actress had been accepted to the university as an early decision applicant and visited the Gallatin School of Individualized Study last spring.

If the rumors are true, Fanning will follow dozens of other celebs into a relatively normal university life.

After graduating high school in 2004, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen started up at NYU but did not finish. In 2003, Academy Award winner Natalie Portman graduated from Harvard. Last year, “127 Hours” actor James Franco received his MFA from Columbia.

In 2009, “Harry Potter” starlet Emma Watson began studying at Brown. Earlier this year, the Brit announced that she’d be saying farewell to the Ivy League school. (MORE: Emma Watson: I was not bullied into leaving of Brown)

This won’t be Fanning’s first stab at normal life: The teenager was a varsity cheerleader and Homecoming queen at North Hollywood’s Campbell Hall Episcopal High School last fall.
