Soft-spoken pop singer Beyoncé Knowles confirmed her first pregnancy at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards by flaunting and caressing her stomach.
Sporting a loose-fitting Lanvin gown, the 29-year-old touched her belly and told photographers that she’s having a baby with rapper husband Shawn Carter, who is more commonly known as Jay-Z. They have been married since 2008.
Beyoncé, who released the famous single-woman anthem, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008, joked earlier this year that she wanted to be a mom by age 30. (RELATED: Hilary Duff fired for being pregnant?)
“I always said I would have a baby at 30,” Beyoncé said during a June “Piers Morgan Tonight” appearance.
After performing song, “Love on Top” at the ceremony, Beyoncé beamed at a cheering audience and rubbed her belly. Spouse Jay-Z could be seen smiling among the crowd with fellow hip-hop artist Kanye West.
Considering the 2009 VMAs, this year’s gathering was fairly undramatic for Beyoncé. In 2009, Kanye interrupted then-teenager Taylor Swift’s Video Music Award acceptance speech to say that Beyoncé’s video, which was nominated for the same award, was “one of the best videos of all time.” A stunned Beyoncé stared in disbelief at the camera. When Beyoncé landed an award later on in the evening, she invited Swift onstage to finish up the speech.
