Stocks struggled for direction at the open Tuesday, as investors continued to remain on edge over the ongoing European debt concerns and following a handful of tepid economic news.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened to the downside, led by P&G and Wal-Mart after finishing higher in the previous session.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also opened mixed. The CBOE Volatility Index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, traded near 38.
