GREENVILLE, S.C. — Bob Jones University will not endorse a Republican candidate before tomorrow’s primary, The Daily Caller has learned.

The conservative Christian university has not conducted a poll of its students, so school leaders do not know for sure which candidate the student body will primarily support, according to a school official with close knowledge of the situation.

Nor will the university hold any type of gathering urging people to vote for a particular candidate.

Former Gov. Rick Perry was scheduled for a meet-and-greet at Bob Jones on Wednesday, but his campaign canceled the event as he prepared to drop out of the race the following day. Perry’s wife Anita visited the university in October.

With Perry out, only one Protestant remains in the race: Texas Rep. Ron Paul. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are both Catholic, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is Mormon.

Bob Jones III, the school’s chancellor, backed Romney in 2008 despite their religious differences, but has not endorsed him this time around.
