Bruins break off the Blues

ST. LOUIS — The game may not go into a time capsule as an example of the quintessential win in the Claude Julien era, but the Bruins [team stats] certainly resembled their old selves more than they have in a while in a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues last night at Scottrade Center.

Make no mistake. It was a very good win, both for its timeliness and the opponent.

In snapping a two-game losing streak in which they managed just a pair of goals, the B’s beat a team that had been 18-0-3 in their previous 21 games at home, and had allowed an average of 0.91 even-strength goals in their building.

Julien had talked about a weight that his players have been carrying in recent days with the way they’ve struggled to score (four shutouts in nine games), but this win should go a long way toward lightening the load, with stress on the word should, considering they haven’t won consecutive games since Jan. 10 and 12.
