After the huge success of The Beatles in the United States, music producers jumped on the chance to recreate that magic stateside. The Monkees were originally formulated for a television series of the same name about a rock group, but the band found major success with their saccharine sweet lyrics and upbeat melodies.
Even after the group disbanded when the show went off the air in 1971, their songs are part of the soundtrack of the 1960s that have stood the test of time.
