Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will end or suspend his campaign for the Republican nomination on Tuesday, May 1, according to a report by Fox News.

Gingrich was soundly defeated in all five primaries last night, including the one in Delaware, a state where he had campaigned heavily in recent weeks. All the contests were won by former Massachusetts Governor and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

The campaign aides Fox News spoke with indicated that Gingrich would likely endorse Romney as he exits the presidential race.

Gingrich’s exit leaves only Texas Congressman Ron Paul left in the race against Romney for the Republican nomination.
