Anne Hathaway can be seen bald, bawling, and belting it out in the first trailer for the film adaptation of the Broadway classic, “Les Miserables.”

The Oscar award-winning director of “The King’s Speech,” Tom Hooper, has already begun to make his mark on the traditional material. Hooper had the actors sing live on set, which explains Hathaway’s unexpectedly shaky rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” playing throughout the background of trailer — an emotional nod to the film’s heavy material.

Hathaway is joined in the movie by fellow megastars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Amanda Seyfried, who are also featured in dramatic cutaway shots throughout the trailer released Wednesday.

“Les Miserables” opens in theaters Dec. 14.
