In a small English town, 31-year-old Raymond Hodgson was appalled when he found out that his girlfriend of five years, Emma McCormick, was reading the raunchy book “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Hodgson called the book pornographic and after a long argument via text message, Hodgson showed up at her house. McCormick answered the door and the two continued to argue. When she tried to close the door on him, he jammed his foot in the door, slapped her in the face and squirted her with a bottle of brown sauce.

Hodgson was charged with common assault.

“He didn’t realize that the sauce incident would be classified as assault. [He] is sorry for his actions,” said prosecutor Adrienne Harris, The Telegraph reports. (RELATED: X-rated novel becomes fastest selling paperback ever)

When it came time to pass sentence, District Judge Gerald Chalk said Hodgson’s actions had been intended to demean McCormick. Hodgson was ordered to pay £100 ($155.16) in compensation and £85 ($131.89) in prosecution fees. Chalk also imposed a 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. curfew for six weeks and six months of community service.

According to The Telegraph, Hodgson said he wanted to show McCormick “what saucy really meant.”
