Country singer Willie Nelson’s daughter, Amy Nelson, and granddaughter, Raelyn Nelson, sang and protested outside of the South Korean embassy in Washington, D.C., last to raise awareness about the dog and cat meat trade.
“We found out somewhat recently about the way that dogs and cats are being treated in South Korea and we are just horrified by it” said Amy Nelson. (RELATED: Jim Treacher’s “Obama eats god”)
“No one should be treated that way,” she said. “It offends me as a human being, it offends my humanity and I don’t want to be ashamed of being human, so I want to get together with other compassionate humans around the world and make a change.”
Amy added that their “dad sent us out” and the issue “spoke to him as well. ”
“My dad says that do onto animals as you would want animals do unto you,” she said. “When he heard about it happening he wanted us to come out and represent the whole Nelson family and express our views on this. It’s not right.”
“The Olympics are coming up in South Korea in 2018 so i think we have some more leverage than ordinarily as global citizens to come out and write to the ambassador and to the president of South Korea and ask them to make some changes and enforce the laws they already have in place,” said Amy.
