1.) Class or no class, Dubai edition? — Dubai’s police department has purchased a Lamborghini to show how classy they are. TheDC’s Jamie Weinstein reports:
“Dubai wants the world to know it’s a classy place. That’s why its police department recently purchased a $550,000 Lamborghini Aventador, reports The Associated Press. … An effort by The Daily Caller to reach Donald Trump to authoritatively judge the classiness of Dubai’s automotive initiative was unsuccessful.”
Maybe Dubai should focus on building a sustainable economy instead of more stunts. Just an idea.
2.) McCain’s a listening man — John McCain says that on immigration reform, it’s hearing time. TheDC’s Neil Munro reports:
“Arizona Sen. John McCain wants the Senate to hold multiple hearings on the immigration rewrite, McCain’s spokesman said Thursday. ‘Obviously he supports holding multiple public hearings,’ Brian Rogers, McCain’s communications director told The Daily Caller. ‘He’s rejected the notion that this legislation is somehow being rammed through without debate — it’s just not true,’ Rogers added.”
Unfortunately, while there will be immigration hearings, many in the House and the Senate will be unable to hear naturally.
3.) Not done until it’s done — What will happen with gun control in the Senate? TheDC’s Alex Pappas reports:
“Does the Republican-controlled House of Representatives have any appetite whatsoever for the new gun control legislation moving through the Senate? ‘It’s not a foregone conclusion that that bill is going to become law,’ Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam said in response to a question from The Daily Caller during a conference call with several reporters Thursday. Roskam, an Illinois Republican, was referring to the compromise proposal offered Wednesday by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia that observers say is the best hope for a gun control package. It requires background checks for all commercial transactions, including checks for those who buy firearms at gun shows and online.”
4.) Take the damn tests! — Standardized tests aren’t perfect, but they do give some measure of how well a student performs compared to other students who grew up in different parts of the country and went to schools with different grading systems. In short, stop whining about that. The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Robby Soave reports:
“As opposition to standardized tests continues to rise among parents, students, and especially teachers, some Pennsylvania parents exempted their kids from testing based on their religious objections. But while state law allows faith-based opt-outs, the actual reasons given by parents seemed political, rather than religious. ‘Funding is tied to the scores, so not only are the teachers penalized for poor grades, but really the children are expected to perform like trained seals to earn the money for their schools,; said Pennsylvania parent Jennifer Jablunovsky in a statement to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.”
