National Geographic Channel announced that Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin will star in its newest movie, “Killing Kennedy.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lowe will play John F. Kennedy, and Goodwin will play his wife, fashion idol Jacqueline Kennedy. Michelle Trachtenberg also joins the cast as Marina Oswald, the wife of JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

“Killing Kennedy’s” release has been timed to correspond with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Kennedy in November, National Geographic Channels President Howard T. Owens said in a statement Tuesday.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists who have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” Owens said.

The screenplay will be based on Bill O’Reilly’s bestseller of the same name. His previous book, “Killing Lincoln,” was also adapted by National Geographic Channels, and premiered in February to 3.4 million viewers.

Production on “Killing Kennedy” is set to begin in Richmond, Va., in June, when Lowe and Goodwin have breaks from filming their successful TV shows, “Parks and Recreation” and “Once Upon a Time,” respectively.
