Iranian President-elect Hasan Rowhani has been liked to a special Iranian government committee that caused one of the deadliest attacks in Argentina’s history, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

The 1994 bombing destroyed a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, killing over 85 people and wounding hundreds more.

According to an indictment by an Argentine government prosecutor, Rowhani was serving as secretary of the Supreme Nation Security Council under Akbar Rafsanjani and was also on the committee that planned the Hezbollah attack.

Rafsanjani is strongly outspoken against Israel, and has said that Muslims should use nuclear weapons against the Jewish state.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with other Iranian politicians, made the ruling to carry out the act, according to testimony cited in the indictment. Although it is likely that Rowhani was involved in deliberations, he likely could not have made the final call to carry out the bombings, according to experts cited by the Free Beacon.

Upon election, Rowhani was praised as the most “moderate” candidate on the ballot, despite his past statements and plans to continue Iran’s nuclear program.
