Kanye West is “perfect” and bigger than Michael Jackson. He’s cracked the glass ceiling and also some pavement. As if that weren’t enough for one oversized toddler, he is also in the midst of a civil rights movement.
This all according to Kanye West.
The rapper said some typically insane and egomaniacal things during an hour-long interview with BBC Radio 1 that aired Monday.
Here are the rapper’s six most awesome and hilarious quotes from the interview (that’s one crazy statement every 10 minutes) via Us Weekly:
- He is greater than Michael Jackson and has broken the glass ceiling, a metaphor generally applied to women in the corporate world: “I’ve got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down,” he said. “I have reached the glass ceiling, as a creative person, as a celebrity…and I’ve been at it for 10 years.”
- Kanye is in the middle of a civil rights movement, and he’s the only one fighting: “I look around and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. There’s no one around here in that looks like me. And if they are, they’re quiet as fuck.’ So that means, wait a second — now we’re seriously, like, in a civil rights movement.”
- He is so creative that people just don’t understand him. “I shouldn’t be limited to only one place of creativity,” he lamented. “You guys don’t understand — I did the Air Yeezys and they eBay’d for $90,000…but I didn’t get a call from Nike the next day.”
- Kanye knows how to “make perfect” and created a “perfect album” several years ago: “I’m not trying to regurgitate myself,” he said. “I showed people that I understand how to make perfect. You know, [My Twisted] Dark Fantasy could be considered to be perfect. I know how to make perfect, but that’s not what I’m here to do. I’m here to crack the pavement and make new grounds sonically…and culturally.”
- Kanye West is the No. 1 rock star on the planet: “We culture. Rap is the new rock ‘n’ roll. We the rock stars…We the new rock stars and I’m the biggest of all of them. I’m the No. 1 rock star on the planet.”
- He’s with Kim Kardashian because she makes plenty of money, basically: “Yeah, it’s like family time. That’s what Kim gave me.
