Apple designers referred to the gold iPhone 5S unofficially as “the Kardashian Phone” during production, according to a pair of reports.
New York Times columnist Nick Bilton first tweeted the report Friday, and TechCrunch writer Matthew Panzarino confirmed the tale with anonymous sources.
A source at Apple told me while they were making the gold iPhone it was referred to internally as “The Kardashian Phone.”

“Apparently this was not a serious ‘code name’ or anything, just an internal joke,” TechCrunch wrote.
Kardashian tweeted her love for her gold iPhone in December 2012.
