Environmentalists are really unhappy with tea party House Republicans: An “environmental scorecard” produced by green activists gives GOP House members their “worst-ever” score.

Republican scores have declined from an average of 17 percent in 2008 to a “low average of 5 percent for 2013,” according to the League of Conservation Voters (LCV. Environmentalists put most of the blame on the tea party.

“This is the worst-ever score for House Republicans,” Jeff Gohringer of LCV told the Hill. “I think its a sign of how the Tea Party is weighing down Republicans.”

Republicans have consistently opposed efforts by the Obama administration to limit carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, to close off federal lands from energy develop and to subsidize green energy projects.

Democrats, on the other hand, have been hailed by LCV as “overwhelmingly pro-environment” with an average score of 88 percent for 2013.

“There is a jarring disconnect between the frightening climate change developments of 2013 and the results of the 2013 National Environmental Scorecard,” said Gene Karpinski, LCV’s president, in a statement. “With myriad anti-environmental attacks and record dysfunction culminating in a government shutdown, the 2013 Scorecard largely reflects a failure to act.”

Democrats have supported green energy subsidies, energy taxes and stricter regulations on the coal industry.
