Could a team have put themselves in a better position to win the World Series than the Oakland A’s?

Short answer, no. Long answer? No.

The A’s are officially going for it this year.

Less than an hour ago (4 p.m. EST) marked the trade deadline for non-waiver acquisitions, and the A’s landed the big fish.

Jon Lester, a two-time World Series champ with Boston, is Oakland-bound for the next few months and will be fronting what could be considered the best pitching staff in baseball. (RELATED: This Animated Mets Fan Is So Fed Up With His Team Sucking)

While they gave up Home Run Derby champ Yoenis Cespedes in the deal, Lester vastly improves a team that is poised to make a run at the title. Adding Jonny Gomes to the mix certainly doesn’t hurt either.

How happy are the Oakland A’s? Oh, they approve.

As Toby Keith once said, “we got winners……. we got loooosers.”

Enter Tommy Milone, the guy losing his spot to Lester. Milone was dealt to Minnesota for reserve outfielder Sam Fuld earlier today.

Tommy Milone’s wife is so sad.

I repeat, she is so so sad.

The Oakland A’s won today, and very well may win come October. (RELATED: Who Loves Cheese Crackers? The Molina Brothers Love Cheese Crackers)

UPDATE (4:26)Sooooo the Detroit Tigers just pried former Cy Young award winner David Price from Tampa. They can now throw out there Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and Price three out of every five games and is now the only team in the MLB to feature THREE former Cy Young award winners.

Not-so-bold prediction: A’s vs. Tigers in the ALCS.

It needs to happen.

Also, the Phillies still suck.
