Tough weekend for NBC’s Luke Russert.

Reports emerged Saturday that Corey Griffin, 27, who attended Boston College with Russert, dove off a building on Nantucket – a sort of known rite of passage – and sources to The Mirror tell us Luke was visiting the island over the weekend. The pair previously traded tweets and obviously knew each other.

“We’ll all miss ya Corey, one the sweetest souls I knew,” Russert, 28, wrote on Twitter Sunday accompanied by a photograph of the two of them below.

All the stories say the incident is still “under investigation.” But exactly what happened that night remains fuzzy. Griffin jumped off the “Juice Guys” building at 44 Straight Warf. According to a statement from Nantucket police that was reported by a variety of outlets such as The Boston Globe, Griffin was reported missing in the harbor at 2 a.m. His body floated to the surface, then sank. An off duty lifeguard recovered the body. Griffin was pronounced dead at Nantucket Cottage Hospital at 3 a.m.

Griffin lived in New York City to work for Rane. He formerly worked for Bain Capital in Boston.
