A biology teacher who compared the high school that he teaches at to a concentration camp will continue teaching students while under investigation. The Fuquay-Varina teacher was forced to apologize after a paper he wrote made the comparison.
The teacher, Ray Fournier, called on parents to take their kids out of school in order to “rescue” them from public education, according to the New York Daily News. The piece, published in the Christian newspaper No Greater Joy, called his school “a concentration camp dedicated to the spiritual death of those imprisoned behind these walls.”
While he never mentioned the school by name, administrators eventually caught wind of it. Fournier apologized, and his original piece, entitled “From Behind Enemy Lines,” was replaced with the apology, but the title remains the same.
A week later, according to the News and Observer, Fournier remains in the classroom still teaching his students while under investigation by the school system. Despite concerns and complaints to the school and school system by parents and community members, Wake County communications director Lisa Luten said each case is individual, andthat due to the ongoing investigation she would not say why Fournier has been allowed to keep teaching.
