Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell is leading his Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, by 8 points, according to internal polling released by his campaign Wednesday.
McConnell’s camp released a memo from pollster Jan van Lohuizen showing McConnell at 49, Grimes at 41 percent and Libertarian David Patterson at 3 percent.
Lohuizen said he polled 815 likely voters in Kentucky over the last week. The margin of error is +/- 3.5 percent.
The poll comes following news reports that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, claiming polling shows that Grimes may have a chance against McConnell after all, plans to run $650,000 of ads in support of Grimes before the election.
It was previously reported that the DSCC had decided against running ads, a sign that it had all but given up on her chances.
