A woman is suing the House of Representatives for physical and emotional harm inflicted on her two years ago when a staffer’s dog bit her.
California Rep. Tom McClintock invited Elizabeth Crawford to his Washington office in 2013 to discuss domestic violence, and while she was waiting for the meeting a dog named Who Dey bit her right index finger, the Washington Post reports.
Although she was bleeding profusely, Crawford told the Washington Post she still attended the meeting. She later racked up $26,000 in medical bills, including for surgery to straighten the tendon in her finger and for rabies shots.
Crawford filed a suit in D.C. federal court Friday demanding $200,000, saying she suffered “severe and permanent bodily injuries and mental anguish,” and that her “normal, social and recreational activities have been curtailed.” Crawford refused an initial settlement offered by the House, because it was only in the four figures.
The suit blames McClintock’s staffer for creating a dangerous situation by allowing Who Dey to walk around the office unattended.
