Three journalists are going to work for the Washington Examiner, the idea being to pump up their news desk.

The newbies include Tim Cavanaugh from National Review, Paige Winfield Cunningham from Politico, where she wrote the “Pulse” tip sheet and Tara Copp from the Government Accountability Office.

Cavanaugh was previously the executive editor at The Daily Caller. His title will be news editor.

Editorial Director Hugo Gurdon made the announcement in a release Wednesday.

“We set out to build up the news side of Washington Examiner, and we are taking a significant step in this direction with our new hires,” said Gurdon. “Look for more coming in the near future as we strengthen our newsroom with top-class talent.”

The Washington Examiner has undergone a lot of change last year in leadership and staff. In a December shakeup that left the newsroom rattled, as some may recall, they let go of CEO Lou Ann Sabatier and brought in Ryan McKibben in her place. Over the summer, Gurdon came aboard and soon enough, longtime editor Stephen Smith was out.

We’ll see if the changes pay off.
