Speaker of the House John Boehner’s office on Friday decided to bash President Obama’s proposal to have the federal government provide two years of free community college… With a series of Tumblr-style Taylor Swift .gifs.

The math of the president’s plan, Boehner argues, just doesn’t add up.

“Last week, President Obama announced his latest idea to provide “free” community college to millions of Americans. It sounded exciting at first…,” the attack opens, and Swift looks suitably upbeat.

Things rapidly go south, however, as Boehner does the math.

“But then, we got to thinking. Free?! Is he using magic money? Nothing is free,” argues Boehner’s staff. They note that despite the “free” label, the real price tag is estimated at about $60 billion over 10 years.

“Not even all the Taylor Swift album sales in the world would cover that bill.”

The only solution, Boehner’s office argues: Tax hikes for American citizens. Their chosen reaction leaves little doubt about how they feel on that front.

The post ends by suggesting the president should instead focus on lowering the actual cost of attending college, and requests an apology for good measure.

“We’re not mad.  We’re just disappointed.”

It’s not the first time Swift has popped up in political discourse. Last November, retiring Sen. Tom Harkin compared Joni Ernst’s appearance to the superstar’s, prompting Ernst to say she just wanted to “shake it off.”
