A train carrying 109 tankers of crude oil derailed during a snowstorm near Mount Carbon, West Virginia on Monday sending massive fireballs 300 feet into the cloud-covered sky.
A witness to the incident was being filmed for an interview with WSAZ when flames from the accident flared up and began rolling into the air.
Nineteen train cars caught fire, according to the Associated Press.
“Did you get a picture of that? Man that’s hot,” a man off-camera can be heard saying during the interview.
Dozens of homes in the area were evacuated. One house caught fire. Only one person was treated for smoke inhalation.
According to the AP, each train car was carrying 30,000 gallons of crude oil.
The train was transporting the oil from the Bakken field in North Dakota to Yorktown, Va.
Fire crews had no choice but to let the tanks burn off, according to the AP.
Seven inches of snow had fallen at the time of the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
