Owners of the Tesla Model S may be surprised to discover the leading electric car has a very wet feature reserved for secret agents only.
Thanks to a newly discovered feature reported by Jalopnik, aspiring MI6 recruits can wow their fellow spies 007-style by transforming their ride into the Lotus Esprit S1 submersible from “The Spy Who Loved Me.”
Sleuths need only select the “T” logo and type in “007” to activate the easter egg, which includes a secondary reference to Jules Verne by letting users select a depth of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.”
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk purchases the Lotus used in the 1977 film for $866,000 in 2013.
“It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater,” Musk said in a statement according to The Guardian. “I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real.”
