Elizabeth Warren: ‘I’m In’

Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren caused a few heart palpitations with an email sent through the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on Saturday with the simple and direct subject line: “I’m in.”

The liberal Democrat is “in,” but not in the way many progressives hoped.

Instead of announcing that she will run for president in 2016 against likely candidate Hillary Clinton, Warren was merely announcing that she’s “in” on the fight to reclaim the U.S. Senate.

“Friend — In the first few weeks of the new Republican Congress, the GOP has attacked Social Security. They’ve attacked health care. They’ve attacked the rules on Wall Street. They even threatened a reckless shutdown of our national security funding,” Warren wrote.

“The question is whether enough Democrats will stand up — stand up to corporate money and powerful interests and stand up for regular people, working families, and progressive values,” Warren wrote in the email, which also solicited donations to the DSCC.

“I’m in — what about you? Will you donate by midnight to take back the Senate?”

Warren has so far denied that she has any plans to run against Clinton, the odds-on favorite to win the Democratic nomination. But many progressive groups looking for a more populist progressive option have urged her to reconsider. Warren and Clinton reportedly met at the former Secretary of State’s New York home. Clinton did not ask for Warren’s endorsement, according to those familiar with the discussion.
