Two Massachusetts men who allegedly worked with the Boston terror suspect planning to behead a police officer were charged Friday with trying to aid the Islamic State.
David Wright, also known as Dawud Sharif Abdul Khaliq, and Nicholas Rovinski, also known as Nuh Amriki or Nuh al Andalusi, were charged with conspiracy to provide material support to ISIS by planning to kill Pamela Geller.
Wright and Rovinski allegedly planned with Usaamah Abdullah Rahim to behead Pamela Geller, the woman who organized a competition to draw the prophet Muhammad in Garland, Taxas, which led to a fatal shooting when terrorists targeted the event. The men allegedly met in secret to plot the attack with Rahim.
But authorities say Rahim changed his mind and decided instead to target a police officer.
According to the Department of Justice, who were monitoring the men, “Wright urged him to first wipe his laptop computer and to destroy his phone so that they could not be searched by law enforcement and urged him to make a will.”
Counter terrorism officers approached Rahim June 2 suspecting that he planned to behead a police officer. The officers say Rahim came at them with a knife and ignored commands to stop, so they fatally shot him.
If convicted, the two men will spend no more than 15 years in prison.
