I Was Born A Poor Black Child

Font Size:

It’s confession time, you guys everybody:

I’m black.

I’m also a woman. And a lesbian. And a pirate. And Batman. And whatever else I declare myself to be, at the time I’m declaring myself to be that thing.

And you can’t tell me I’m not any and all of those things, because that’s racist, or misogynist, or homophobic, or anti-pirate, or Wayne-hatin’, or all of the above. You don’t get to tell me what I am.

Well, except when you do. Chuck Ross reports:

The president of the Spokane, Wash. chapter of the NAACP has claimed for years to be part African-American and that she has been targeted in numerous hate crimes. But in fact, 37-year-old Rachel Dolezal is not black at all, her parents say. She’s white, and she was born in Montana, and she’s lied about many other details of her past…

According to The Press, Dolezal, who besides leading the NAACP chapter is an Africana studies professor at Eastern Washington University, falsely claimed she was African-American on an application for a position as the chair of Spokane’s Office of Police Ombudsman Commission.

In addition, Dolezal has falsely claimed that her biological father is black. She even went so far as to post pictures of herself on Facebook standing with a black man she claimed was her dad. But the man, Albert Wilkerson, is from northern Idaho and worked as a volunteer for the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d’Alene, according to The Press.

Read the whole thing. And then, do not ask this question:

Shut up. Don’t even go there, teabagger. Literally, I can’t even.

I don’t care that we’re currently holding a coast-to-coast pride parade for a guy who grew his hair out and slapped on some makeup and fake boobs and told everybody to call him “Caitlyn.” I don’t care that people have been lecturing me for weeks that our biological makeup doesn’t make us what we are, or what we want to be. That’s different, because… Shut up!!

It used to be that black people tried to pass as white in order to get ahead in life. Now white people try to pass as black, or Native American, or female, or whatever else they consider exotic. If that ain’t equality, I don’t know what is.

Update: This reporter should be brought up on hate-speech charges. You do not get to tell her who she is, dude.
