One of the escaped New York prisoners has met his end.
Richard Matt, one of the two prisoners to escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility almost three weeks ago, was fatally shot Friday, The New York Times reports.
Matt was shot in Franklin County near where officers had found DNA from an escaped prisoner in a cabin in the woods just 25 miles west of the prison.
So far, the other escaped prisoner David Sweat is still on the loose. Matt’s picture is below.
A witness had come upon the cabin earlier this week and seen a man running out the back. The lead was promising but let to no arrests or incidents until now. This is the first known contact with one of the escapees since their prison break nearly three weeks ago.
