Presidential hopeful Ben Carson said Tuesday that if he were present at Umpqua Community College, he would have attempted to take down shooter Christopher Harper-Mercer.

“Not only would I probably not cooperate with him,” Carson told “Fox and Friends” host Brian Kilmeade, “I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him!’ He may shoot me but he can’t get us all.” (PHOTOS: Meet The 30-Year-Old Army Vet Who Was Shot Fives Times Shielding Classmates From Oregon Shooter)

Carson posted two photos to his Facebook page after reports stated that Harper-Mercer asked UCC students, “what’s your religion?” before executing them.

The tragic shooting in Roseburg has incited new calls for increased gun legislation, yet some — including some Roseburg residents — have criticized liberals’ politicization of the tragedy. (VIDEO: Oregon Community Paper Says Obama Not Welcome After Politicizing Shooting)
